Early Access: FlexVerification Benefit Injection

Available to FlexVerification Pro subscriptions on versions 7.16.3 and above

We know how time consuming tracking down insurance details can be. That is why we are introducing an important enhancement that will improve your insurance verification process. Benefit injection brings insurance benefit details directly into Open Dental.

This guide will help you understand what this new feature does, why it matters, and how to begin using it right away.

🆕What is New & What to Expect:

  • You will see key insurance benefit details such as annual maximums, deductible, and coverage percentages added directly into the patient’s benefits.
  • As of version 7.25.3, you can choose which ADA codes are added to Open Dental. For a look at how to set up Procedure Code Selection, see our section below on How To Get Started
  • To make it easier for your team, a copy of the original plan is saved automatically. If needed, you can go back to it at any time.
  • Code frequencies and waiting periods stay as you've set them they will not be overwritten in this early release.
  • The plan’s group name will now show that it was created by Flex, so it is clear where the information came from.
  • All available ADA codes and insurance details are still included in the .pdf copy saved in your Imaging module, regardless of your selection. Updates happen automatically in both Flex and Open Dental.

This update helps you move faster while keeping insurance information clear and consistent for everyone on your team.

Upcoming Enhancements

Available in Beta. Planned for all FlexVerification Pro Users

  • Maximum and Deductible Usage: FlexVerification checks insurance deductible and maximum. If benefits were used at another office, Flex updates Open Dental with the correct amounts so you see accurate remaining benefits.

⚠️Notes

Benefit Injection is performed when the benefits are obtained through the portal. If Flex can only verify using clearinghouse data for a carrier, we will not overwrite or replace the plan that is already on file. This helps ensure accuracy and saves valuable time.

In Early Access, Benefit Injection works when you process a manual on-demand verification with injection. It does not support automation yet — enhancements are on the roadmap as we continue the rollout.

This enhancement is available to offices using Open Dental version 24.2 or higher, giving you access to the latest features. It is not compatible with Practice Web or other look-alike systems.

Why This Matters

Automatically adding benefits to the patient record helps your team work more efficiently and confidently. With coverage information available in Open Dental, your team can:

  1. Save time by avoiding follow-up calls to insurance and logging into multiple portals.
  2. Share accurate estimates with patients.
  3. Reduce errors that happen by entering data by hand.
  4. Easily confirm benefits without switching tools.

This makes your office workflow smoother and keeps everyone on the same page.

How It Works

  1. When Flex verifies insurance, benefit details are added to the patient’s Insurance Plan Benefit Information section of Open Dental. These include:
    • Annual Maximums
    • Deductibles
    • Coverage percentages by category
  2. "(FlexMgd)" is added to the plan’s group name. This shows that it was created and is managed by FlexVerification. FV_Injection_GroupPlanName_7.15.0.jpg
  3. In case you need it later, a copy of the old plan is saved.
    • To learn more about what happens after a verification is successful, check out the 'What to Expect When Insurance Verification is Completed' section of our FAQ guide linked in the 'Looking for More' section below.
    • Reminder: frequencies and waiting periods remain the same in this early release, we will not overwrite them at this time.
  4. To edit plan details, double-click Benefit Information. FV_OD_Arrow to-Benefit-Infor.jpg
  5. To revert back to the previous plan, drop the current plan and add the desired insurance back onto the patient record.                                                                                                                                                         FV_OD_Arrow-to-Drop-Ins.jpg
